Robbins HDD, formerly known as Contractors Manufacturing Services, has been in the forefront of the directional drilling industry since it emerged in the late 1980s. Our heavy-duty HDD rigs are in use around the world. And we've stood beside our customers, working with them in the field to optimize performance of our machines and to see first hand the operational obstacles they must overcome. The Robbins Company has been making machines that bore deep underground for 50 years. Our tunnel boring machines (TBMs) have mechanically bored every type of geology, including boring a 38-foot diameter tunnel through miles of the hardest of rock. What better company to introduce a line of state-of-the-art tools for the directional drilling industry?

Producing high quality tools is not new to Robbins. Just like directional drilling equipment, tooling for TBMs is put under a tremendous amount of stress. We have designed, engineered, built and refined TBM tooling for years. We've learned that high performance, fast changeover and in-field repair are critical to keep the TBMs up and running.

Serving contractors in the field is not new to Robbins either. We have been shipping tools for TBMs to tunneling contractors all over the world for as long as we've been making TBMs.

We started by listening and watching.

Before Robbins Tools designed its first product, we went into the field to get first hand input from leading underground construction contractors. We watched, we asked questions, and we made detailed field analysis of the tooling then in use. The result? A new line of tools that solve some of the most perplexing problems facing HDD contractors for years.

We started with a clean sheet of paper, then designed and engineered each one of our products to far exceed current industry standards. We knew from experience to select the highest quality components, like sealed bearing housings, to make our tools from high-grade steels, and to use state-of-the-art heat-treat processes on the steel for cutting tools. Every step we took was to achieve longer life and better performance on the job site.
